If you're interested in Civil War history, you'll find Fort Fisher very interesting. The Wilmington port was the last Confederate port operating toward the end of the war, and Fort Fisher was its only defence. The museum provides an excellent presentation of the fort's history along with original artifacts discovered during archeological digs. The museum also provides free tours around Fort Fisher that are very informative.
Enjoyed our visit here! It was a drizzly day outside, so we were looking for something inside to do. They have some incredible displays and dioramas. Very nice staff that gave us quite a bit more information! Worth the stop even if it had been a nice day!!
Very cool historical site, especially for the price (free admission). A nice little free museum with artifacts from the Civil War. There's a cool light up diarama of troop movements leading up to the fall of the fort. You can hike around the fort and read a timeline of its involvement in the Civil War. Make sure you walk counter clockwise to get the timeline in order.
There’s lots of information to be found here. It’s free and they have a nice gift shop where you can find unique gifts. If you’re interested in history, I would recommend taking the time to stop by. If you’re not really interested in history, you’ll probably find it boring. There’s not a whole lot to see but there’s a lot to read and discover.
GREAT PLACE 2 VISIT,, PLUS CAUGHT AN IMAGE OF A WAR SOLIDER ON MY PHONE CAMERA
